Thank you for your interest in teaching with the Paradise Recreation and Park District (PRPD). We are committed to partnering with passionate instructors who are ready to share their skills, knowledge, and creativity with the community.

PRPD offers innovative programs that support physical, mental, and emotional wellness for youth, adults, seniors, and families. With growing community engagement and expanding facilities, this is a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact while teaching what you love.

Why Teach with PRPD

PRPD provides instructors with strong support, flexible facilities, and modern technology to help classes succeed. We offer access to state-of-the-art registration software with a dedicated Instructor Portal for managing rosters, attendance, and communication with participants.

Instructors benefit from marketing support, including custom flyers, social media promotion, placement in our Activity Guide, and visibility at community events. With multiple parks, event centers, community spaces, and the Terry Ashe Recreation Center, instructors have a variety of locations to choose from when planning their classes.

How to Become an Instructor 

Step 1 – Review Current Offerings
Visit paradiseprpd.com or review the PRPD Activity Guide to ensure your class idea is unique and not currently offered.

Step 2 – Complete the Class Proposal Form
Provide details including instructor info, class title, description (100 words max), proposed schedule, location preferences, and any materials or fees.

Step 3 – Submit a Class Interest List
Include at least five potential participants to demonstrate community demand for new or revised classes.

Step 4 – Approval and Onboarding
If approved:
• Employee instructors will complete a standard onboarding and hiring process.
• Contract instructors will provide insurance documentation naming PRPD as additionally insured.

Proposal Evaluation Criteria 

PRPD reviews each class proposal with the goal of delivering high-quality, community-focused programs. Proposals are evaluated based on:

  1. Recreational and educational value
  2. Uniqueness and originality
  3. Demonstrated community interest
  4. Affordability and accessibility
  5. Financial feasibility for both instructor and District
  6. Instructor preparedness and experience
  7. Marketing and recruitment potential

Class approval is not guaranteed and may depend on seasonal demand, facility availability, and alignment with District goals.

Instructor Types & Payment Structure 

PRPD offers two instructor pathways:

Employee Instructor
• Teaches within a PRPD facility
• Receives 60% of the registration revenue
• Covered under PRPD insurance

Independent Contractor Instructor
• Teaches at their own facility
• Receives 70% of the registration revenue
• Must provide a certificate of insurance naming PRPD as additionally insured
• Must carry worker’s compensation if employing others

Payments are processed at the end of each class session according to the PRPD pay schedule. Class continuation is based on enrollment, performance, and community interest.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 

How are instructors paid?
Employee instructors teaching at PRPD facilities receive 60% of registration revenue. Contract instructors teaching at their own facilities receive 70%.

When do instructors receive payment?
Payments are issued at the end of each class session, aligned with the District’s standard pay schedule.

Will I be an employee or an independent contractor?
You may be classified as an independent contractor if you operate a business offering similar services elsewhere. Otherwise, you may be brought on as a PRPD employee.

Do I need insurance?
Contract instructors teaching at non-PRPD facilities must provide insurance naming PRPD as additionally insured. Employee instructors are covered under PRPD insurance.

Does PRPD help promote my class?
Yes — instructors receive marketing support including Activity Guide placement, custom flyers, social media promotion, email newsletters, and visibility at community events.

How do participants register?
Participants may register online, in person, or by mail. The Instructor Portal allows you to view rosters, track attendance, and communicate with participants.

Activity Guide Seasons & Timeline 

PRPD publishes two major Activity Guides each year:

Spring / Summer Season
Program Dates: March 1 – August 31
Proposal Deadline: January 1

Fall / Winter Season
Program Dates: September 1 – February 28
Proposal Deadline: July 1

The Activity Guide reaches over 17,000 households and is supported by social media and community engagement promotions. Seasonal launch scheduling gives new classes strong visibility and allows instructors to build momentum and returning participation year-round.
